How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading usually lasts 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, skincare routine, sun exposure, and aftercare.

Some clients need a color refresh after 12 to 18 months. Others keep good color longer, especially if they have normal to dry skin, protect their brows from sun, and follow aftercare instructions.

Microblading is considered semi-permanent because the pigment fades over time. Your brows will not stay the same color and shape forever. A touch-up or annual refresh helps maintain the result.

Why Microblading Fades Over Time

Microblading places pigment into the upper layers of the skin. As your skin naturally renews itself, the pigment slowly softens and fades.

Fading is normal. It does not mean something went wrong.

Your final healed result depends on:

  • Your skin type
  • Your natural brow hair
  • Your immune system
  • Your skincare products
  • Sun exposure
  • Sweating and lifestyle
  • Aftercare
  • The color used
  • How your skin holds pigment
  • Some clients hold pigment longer. Some clients fade faster.

Pomi will explain what to expect based on your skin and brow goals during your appointment.

Skin Type Makes a Big Difference

Your skin type is one of the biggest factors in how long microblading lasts.

Normal to dry skin:

Microblading often heals with cleaner hair strokes and longer-lasting definition. This skin type usually holds microblading well.

Oily skin:

Oily skin often fades microblading faster. Hair strokes might heal softer, blur sooner, or lose crisp detail over time. If you have oily skin, Pomi might recommend ombre powder brows or combo brows instead.

Combination skin:

Combination skin varies by client. Some areas hold pigment well, while oilier areas fade faster.

Mature skin:

Mature skin needs a gentle approach. Soft color, careful shaping, and realistic expectations matter. Pomi will recommend the best brow technique based on your skin texture and desired look.

How Long Before You Need a Touch-Up?

Microblading is usually a two-step process.

The first appointment creates the shape, color, and brow foundation.

The perfecting touch-up helps refine the healed result after your skin has recovered.

The perfecting touch-up is important because some areas might heal lighter than others. This appointment helps improve balance, color, and shape.

When Should You Book an Annual Brow Refresh?

Many clients book an annual brow refresh around 12 to 18 months after their original service.

You might be ready for a refresh if:

  • Your brows look lighter than you want
  • The shape looks less defined
  • You fill in your brows more often
  • The tails have faded
  • One brow faded more than the other
  • The color looks too soft
  • You want your brows cleaned up before a trip, event, or new season

For existing clients, an annual brow refresh helps keep the brows soft, balanced, and natural.

What Makes Microblading Fade Faster?

Microblading fades faster when the skin renews faster or the pigment breaks down sooner.

Common reasons brows fade faster:

  • Oily skin
  • Frequent sun exposure
  • Tanning
  • Swimming
  • Heavy sweating
  • Chemical peels
  • Retinol or tretinoin near the brow area
  • Exfoliating acids near the brows
  • Laser treatments near the brows
  • Not following aftercare
  • Picking or scratching during healing
  • Certain medications or health conditions

You do not need to stop your normal skincare forever, but you should avoid strong exfoliating products directly on the brow area if you want your results to last longer.

How to Help Your Microblading Last Longer

Good care helps protect your results.

To help your brows last longer:

  • Follow Pomi’s aftercare instructions
  • Avoid picking or scratching while healing
  • Keep brows protected from heavy sun exposure
  • Avoid tanning beds
  • Do not apply retinol, tretinoin, or exfoliating acids directly over healed brows
  • Use sunscreen around the brow area after healing
  • Avoid harsh facial treatments directly over the brows
  • Book refresh appointments before the pigment fades too much

Small habits make a difference. Sun and exfoliating skincare are two of the biggest reasons brows fade sooner.

What Happens If You Wait Too Long?

If you wait too long, the brows might fade enough that a simple refresh is no longer the best option.

When pigment fades too much, Pomi might need to rebuild more of the brow shape. If old pigment changed color, turned gray, red, or uneven, correction work might be needed.

That is why annual refresh appointments help. They maintain the brows before the shape and color fade too much.

Microblading vs Powder Brows: Which Lasts Longer?

Powder brows often last longer than microblading, especially for oily skin.

Microblading creates fine hair-like strokes. It gives a natural look, but the strokes might fade or soften faster on oily or textured skin.

Powder brows create a soft shaded effect. This technique often holds better for clients with oily skin, sparse brows, or clients who want more definition.

Combo brows use both hair strokes and shading. This works well for clients who want a natural look with extra fullness and better color retention.

Simple guide:

  • Choose microblading if you want the most natural hair-stroke look.
  • Choose powder brows if you want a soft filled-in look or have oily skin.
  • Choose combo brows if you want hair strokes plus fuller definition.

Pomi will recommend the right brow service based on your skin, natural brow hair, and desired result.
