F.A.Q.

What exactly is microblading?

It is often referred to as eyebrow embroidery and micro-stroking.  Feather like strokes are drawn onto the brows with a hand tool instead of machine.  The pigments are deposited into the upper layer of the dermis, making it shallower than traditional permanent makeup technique.  The results are more natural looking, hair like strokes that complement the existing hair. This method is ideal for those who are looking to change up their eyebrow shape, make their brows fuller or for those who are suffering from hair loss conditions such as alopecia.

Do I want microblading?

This cutting edge treatment is used to give realistic hair stroke effects to eyebrows, enabling a thicker and fuller appearance without the need to apply make-up on a daily basis. Some of the most common reasons why people turn to microblading are to change the shape of their brows, to improve definition, to add color and density, as well as to replace brows that have been lost through medical treatment or over plucking.

Furthermore, since results can last for a long time, it enables you to experience a high quality finish without the need for much maintenance.

What is semi-permanent makeup?

Semi-permanent makeup (SPMU), also known as cosmetic tattooing or micropigmentation, is a specialized technique that implants pigment into the upper layer of the skin (the dermis) using precise tools. This creates the look of makeup — such as filled-in eyebrows, eyeliner, or lip color — that remains for an extended period without the need for daily application.

Unlike traditional tattoos, semi-permanent makeup is designed to fade over time to allow for adjustments as your features, style, and skin change.

How long does semi-permanent makeup last?

Results typically last 1 to 3 years, depending on:

  • Your skin type (oily skin may fade faster)
  • Lifestyle (sun exposure, skincare products, exfoliants)
  • Pigment color used (lighter shades fade sooner)
  • Metabolism (faster metabolism may fade pigment quicker)
  • Aftercare (proper healing care helps maximize results)

Regular touch-ups are recommended every 12 to 24 months to maintain your desired look.

Is semi-permanent makeup safe?

Yes — when performed by a licensed and experienced professional using:

  • Medical-grade, disposable, single-use tools
  • Sterile, high-quality pigments free of harmful metals
  • Strict hygiene and sanitation protocols

Choosing a properly trained and certified PMU artist significantly minimizes any risk. My studio prioritizes client safety with hospital-grade cleanliness and professional care.

Does the procedure hurt?

Discomfort is generally minimal. Most clients describe the sensation as light scratching, tingling, or pressure rather than pain.

  • Topical numbing creams are applied before and during the procedure.
  • Clients often find eyebrow and lip treatments more tolerable, while eyeliner may feel slightly more sensitive.

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but I work carefully to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout your appointment.

How long does the appointment take?

Plan for 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the procedure type.

This time includes:

  • Full consultation & design mapping
  • Color matching to suit your skin tone and preferences
  • Numbing process
  • The PMU procedure itself
  • Aftercare instructions and review

This process ensures that you receive fully customized, natural-looking results.

What is the healing process like?

  • Days 1-3: Slight swelling, redness, and mild tenderness may occur.
  • Days 3-7: Scabbing or light flaking is common as the skin heals.
  • Days 7-14: Scabs fall off, pigment may appear lighter.
  • Weeks 4-6: Color settles into its true tone as the skin fully heals.

Following proper aftercare is essential for optimal results. Full healing and pigment stabilization take approximately 4–6 weeks.

Will I need a touch-up?

Yes — a touch-up is almost always recommended.

  • The first “perfection session” occurs about 4 to 8 weeks after      your initial appointment.
  • This allows for color adjustments, minor refinements, and ensures long-lasting results.
  • Some clients may opt for annual maintenance touch-ups to keep the look fresh.

Who is a good candidate for semi-permanent makeup?

Most healthy individuals are excellent candidates. PMU is ideal for:

  • Busy professionals
  • Athletes
  • Individuals with sparse, thinning, or uneven brows
  • People with makeup sensitivities
  • Those with conditions like alopecia

However, PMU may not be suitable for:

  • Pregnant or nursing women
  • Individuals with certain skin disorders, blood disorders, or uncontrolled medical conditions
  • Anyone prone to keloid scarring
  • Those on certain medications (consult with your doctor if unsure)

I always conduct a full consultation to ensure PMU is safe and appropriate for you.

Can I wear makeup after my procedure?

  • Avoid wearing makeup on or near the treated area during the healing phase (first 7–10 days).
  • You may wear makeup elsewhere on your face, but avoid powders or creams near the treated skin.
  • Once fully healed, you can resume regular makeup routines as desired.

What areas can be treated with semi-permanent makeup?

  • Eyebrows: Microblading, powder brows, ombré brows, combo brows
  • Eyeliner: Lash line enhancement, soft liner, winged liner
  • Lips: Lip blush, lip tint, full lip color
  • Other: Beauty marks, freckles, scalp micropigmentation (SMP), and small scar camouflaging

Is there any downtime?

  • No major downtime, but you should plan for visible healing signs for 1–2 weeks.
  • Avoid workouts, swimming, saunas, and sun exposure during initial healing.
  • You can typically return to work and light activities immediately after the procedure.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

A few important guidelines to follow:

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners 24 hours prior.
  • Discontinue retinol, AHAs, or exfoliating products 7 days prior.
  • Avoid tanning and sunburn before your appointment.
  • Inform me of any medications or medical conditions in advance.
  • Get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.

Full pre-care instructions will be provided before your session.

Is semi-permanent makeup really permanent?

No — while the pigment is long-lasting, it is not permanent like traditional tattoos. It fades naturally over time, allowing adjustments as your preferences or facial features change.

Can semi-permanent makeup be removed or corrected?

Yes — in most cases:

  • Minor corrections or color adjustments can be made during touch-ups.
  • Complete removal may be possible through saline lightening or laser treatments.
  • Always choose a trained PMU professional for any corrections.
